Pros: | Can produce gorgeous flash results | Cons: | Inconsistent | | I've had the Promaster 7500EDF for nearly two years now. I've used it quite a lot during that time. I love the fact that the unit has a bounce and swivel head as well as a second lower powered flash. This configuration allows me to be very flexible and direct the flash off a ceiling or wall with a little fill flash added. As it should the flash creates much more pleasing pictures than my pop up ever could.
I was using the K10 when I first got the flash. The results with that camera were very inconsistent at best. One picture would be great, the next shot taken from nearly the same location without changing any settings would be either significantly underexposed or overexposed. I spoke with a professional photographer and he said TTL flash units sometimes do that. While that may be true, a good flash unit should be more consistent.
When I upgraded to the K-7 at the end of 2010 I wasn't sure what to expect. The flash now works much better. I often have to tweak it, either setting it to 1 or 2 stops over or under, but once I get it set, the flash does a pretty good job. While it requires a little experimenting each time, the results I get with the unit ultimately turn out quite nice.
Would I buy this flash again? Good question. I'm not sure. I am still unsure if there are modern flashes out there which work as easily and consistently as a Pentax pop up flash.
The final results from this flash can be quite good just don't purchase it thinking it's as easy to use as your camera's pop up flash. On the other hand if you stick with it and learn its' quirks, the results can be extremely pleasing.
