Lomography Daguerreotype 64mm F2.9 Unboxing

Recently, a very special lens has made its debut in the Pentax K-mount: the Lomography Daguerreotype 64mm F2.9 Art, a modern respin of one of the first camera lenses ever made back in the year 1839.

Those who supported this project via the Kickstarter campaign earlier this year have now started receiving their copies of the lens.  Others can pre-order the lens directly from Lomography; the estimated delivery date is currently projected for January.  While initial backers could secure the lens for $400, its retail price has been set at $499 for the brass version.  The black finish costs an extra $100.

This lens sports a heavy brass barrel, and it's clear that a lot of attention has been paid to detail through engraving and fine machining of features.  In terms of operation, everything is manual.  In fact, there is no aperture ring.  Instead, insertable plates determine the aperture size and shape.

See below for our unboxing video, and stay tuned for an in-depth review of this unique lens!
