Pentax K-1 Boasts Quietest Screwdrive AF

Quieter autofocus but just as fast as the Pentax K-3

By PF Staff in Hands-On Tests on May 19, 2016

As our hands-on testing of the Pentax K-1 continues, we've discovered another hidden improvement in the camera: a quieter screwdrive motor.  Audio analysis suggests that the K-1 produces about 25% less noise while focusing, without sactificing any speed compared to the Pentax K-3.  Take a listen in the video below:

Of course, modern SDM and DC motors are still considerably quieter— but a handful of current full-frame lenses are still only available with traditional screwdrive, such as the FA Limiteds or D FA macros.

Learn more about the Pentax K-1 in our ongoing homepage coverage, and stay tuned for our full in-depth review at the end of May.
