Pentax K-5 Silver Special Edition

With a DA 40mm XS Ultra-thin Lens · 03-01-2012 · By PF Staff in Pentax News

Pentax has just announced a special edition DSLR camera kit consisting of a Pentax K-5 with a DA 40mm XS lens with the focusing ring in matching silver. The lens was originally designed for the Pentax K-01 by Marc Newson. We find that this lens looks even better on the silver K-5!

The list price for this package is $1599.95 USD and it will be available in April.

The full text of the press release is found here.

Read on for more pictures.

Here are some more images from Pentax's press photo vault. The immages give a good impression of how thin the lens is!

For those concerned about this diluting the collector's value of the silver Limited, there are some subtle differences: this version does not have the special redesigned curved grip or the glass cover on the LCD, and the "SR" logo on the front is red on this version (instead of silver on the Limited).

Nice but I like my black body. Still waiting for the gold and snake skin version though! Pimp my K-5 Pentax.

@Kennod:

Maybe the K-01 was made aimed at a specific (new) target group and to kick the brand further at the market. Most K-5 users are probably not gonna buy yet another APS-C, and for those wanting to upgrade from all other models this was released as a treat while they keep developing their upcoming FF instead... (I got a K-r some months ago and is really appealed by this K-5 Silver version that reminds of my MZ-6....).

This is really sexy, they should stop doing all black bodies....

Ubuntu_user [Delete] Mar 2nd, 2012 9:56AM

Why it doesn't have the bulged grip like the limited K-5 silver did...

Kennod [Delete] Mar 2nd, 2012 7:57AM

2nd release of "Limited" edition silver K-5... not really very limited is it? makes me think there is nothing coming to replace the K-5 for a while. And diminishes the value of the limited

Way to go Pentax! It's a killer combo.

newmikey [Delete] Mar 2nd, 2012 3:38AM

Worrying: why the F-- on the display? Usually this happens with M-lenses. Probably this is just a mock-up without the proper electronic contacts, but still...

This lens may look awesome on the K-01 but not so sure on a DSLR. I'd probably have my fingers on the glass all the time and also miss some balance and a place for my left hand to hang on to.

So is this cool? Absolutely! Super-cool even! Usable and practical? Hmmmm...
