Today we are happy to present our latest in-depth review: a look at the SMC Pentax-DA 50mm F1.8.
DA 50mm F1.8 lens on a Pentax K-50 body
The 50mm focal length is a very popular one, and the "nifty fifty" is often the first lens purchased after the kit lens. Pentax released the DA 50mm in 2012 in order to offer a compelling and inexpensive fixed focal length lens option in its lineup.
Building on the design of former 50mm lenses, the DA 50mm F1.8 uses modern technologies (such as advanced coatings) but lacks some perks found on more expensive lenses in order to keep the price down. It has a strong following on our forum and has become known as the "plastic fantastic". In the US, it regularly retails for under $100.
