Is it worth trading F 35-105mm with A 50mm 1.4?

Dear All,

I don't mind about the zoom (i have the 18-55 kit and sigma 70-300), what i am after is the IQ between the 2 lenses. Been using M 50 f2 and got great shots with it am wondering what the 1.4 can do...

Shop is selling the 1.4 at 65us (how's the price?) and wants to buy the F 35-105 at 70us...

need opinions and suggestions please.

Thanks in advance

The pricing is definitely fair in that the value of both lenses is about the same, but I'd say that they're actually selling the 50mm too cheap! (average price per the reviews is $120: SMC Pentax-A 50mm F1.4 Lens Reviews - Pentax Lens Review Database)

The IQ of the 50mm F1.4 is superb, so you definitely can't go wrong with it if that's all that you're after. However, the F zoom is also a nice lens, as it offers a flexible zoom range and a macro function, on top of pretty decent IQ. See here for reviews: SMC Pentax-F 35-105mm F4-5.6 Lens Reviews - Pentax Lens Review Database

Thanks a lot Adam, i think i do have a bargain with the 50 1.4.

With regards to 35-105 i agree that it's a pretty decent lens but i seldom use it compared to my 18-55 and sigma 70-300 (instead of keeping it i'll let others use it).

I am saving for the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 anyway that will complete my lens range.

The current going rate for an A series 50mm f1.4 is $150 or more, and I would guess the 35-105 isn't much to write home about. Bottom line, that should be a no-brainer.

the 35-105 is a very nice lens-one could argue that it could be wider at the wider end-it's true but don't forget it's not a digital lens-anyway good IQ fast AF useful range-that's a lens I would never sell-it was cheap and very useful. "F" lenses are very good.

fast 50 for budget zoom? In blink of an eye IMO. Go for it... I don't think you'll regret if you like your 50/2.

To all who posted, thank you...

Just want to update everyone on the trade
My F 35-105 and M 50 f2 in exchange for A 50 1.4 and M 28 2.8...

Need time to explore the capabilities of these 2 lenses, think I got lucky...

Again thanks to all

Wow, that makes a good deal even better. You throw in an M 50/2 that you would have no need for, and get an M 28/2.8? Sweet!

until now am still wondering why no one's picking these two lenses on the rack until i saw them... one is also waiting to be picked up, (super takumar 28 f3.5 m42) am not sure if this is a keeper...

been trying all day long these two lenses and they blew me away, can't get over with the lenses...

it seems that i'll not use my 2 other zooms

been wanting to post pics here (is it by links only?)
