Pentax da 15 hd / smc

Just wanted to share these two pictures since i'd love to get a 15 ltd and am deciding wether to get the new or the old one and couldn't find any pictures comparing these two.
I just wanted to check the starburst difference, just have a look yourself. Both pictures f7.1 25 secs iso 100. First one HD second one smc. No editing just converted Raw to jpeg.

Noticeable difference! The SMC looks better to my amateur eye.

Significant difference in stars, and seemingly little reduction in flare. Looks like I'll be hanging onto my SMC version.

Very disappointing. I was really looking forward to getting a silver one

edit: the second image looks lot better, more like I am used to seeing from the DA 15 ltd.

You may win the award for the most useful first post ever! Thanks for posting these. Exactly what I was waiting to see to decide whether to replace my 15. Early returns say........NO!

It would be interesting to see a comparison at f/11, which is my go-to aperture for starbursts. I gather the roundness of the blades in the new lens is limited to the tips, so may not be such an issue stopped down a bit further.

It helps to make me really depressed.

The bokeh from the new version will have to be beyond awesome, otherwise the change was a really bad move. They should have simply used the HD coating and left the diaphragm alone.

Wow, the difference is even more pronounced at f/13.

Glad I was able to snag one of the SMC DA15s before they all disappear.

Lights as a blurry mess or strikingly beautiful stars? Easy choice.
Looks like the SMC one is going to get pricy on the used marked.

This thread has just convinced me to buy another SMC DA15. $499 at Adorama is a pretty good deal, even with postage to Australia.

I am not convinced my current copy is as good as it gets, so I will compare the two when it arrives and sell the lesser copy. There will always be a second-hand market for these babies.
