I have a DA 40mm Limited lens that I love.

There is only one thing that I don't like about it... the lens cap. I can't stand screwing the thing on and off. I have the 43mm and that one is great too, but to me even though the focal lengths are similar, I can't bring myself to get rid of one or the other...hence I am keeping both.

The only thing I dislike about the 40mm isn't the hood, but rather the cap. Is there another option for cap that still makes use of the standard lens hood?

Yeah...I bought a few of those pinch caps and they are way more convenient.

I must have gotten an ill-fitting (different) one as it kept popping off. Went back to the security of the screw-in, even if it took 3 more seconds.

I ordered one so I will see how it goes. As of right now the 43 is my go to... but I like the 40 as well. The AF works a lot better on the 40 than the 43...but that cap on the 40 just wasn't working for me.

I have a 40mm Limited...with the standard screw in lens cap. I like it. Reminds me of the old time quality.

No big deal to leave the cap off with the hood on. It's pretty well protected. In fact, I have a small UV filter screwed to the inside of the cap.

I just bought first 49mm lens cap I've found on BH and it works nicely. The way 40mm is built you are unlikely to accidentally touch the front lens so the hood is not neccessary imho. I also got one for 15mm and it also works but you need to retract the hood to put it on.

I also got a new HD 21mm and it has finally the hood and cap that does not require screwing it in like 15mm's cap does ... I wish they made these for all other limiteds as well (or was this design always like that just for 21mm?)

The problem with the 21 though, is that the hood is quite impractical for circular polarisers. I just leave the hoods at home and use cheap 49mm clip on ones instead.

If you happen to have any 35mm film canisters lying around the film canister cap will fit.
