Lens Hood Loose - FA* 300 F4.5

The lens hood on my lens is loose and doesn't want to lock in place. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this problem and perhaps has found a solution.

Is this a new problem? Mine sometimes doesn't want to fit, but then I realize I was aligning the wrong dot on the hood to the wrong screw on the lens.

It has always been flimsy, sometimes it seems to fit better than other times. Perhaps its me.
