Thoughts on what to do about broken 16-50/2.8?

Hello again!

I have a slight issue with my 16-50mm... I've buggered the electronics.

I took it apart to try to fix the SDM which stopped working, got curious, took it apart further (I had no idea what I was doing BTW) and when I got it back together, I noticed that it wasn't quite right.

Now, the optics are fine, but it isn't recognised by the camera (it asks for the focal length at startup) and the aperture wide open is reported as 5.6, but when stopped down to "6.3" the lens actually stops down to 6.3. And the manual focus ring needs to be pulled back to actually engage the focus mechanism.

I'm trying to decide what to do. I don't honestly use the lens much, even when it did work. I'm not sure if I'd want to pay for the full electronical overhaul it'd need. Should I just sell it as broken? Or what? Suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

It's probably too late now, and it's easy to be wise in hindsight, but hacking the lens' EEPROM file to force the autofocus to operate by screw drive would have been a better solution.
I would be surprised if it would be worth selling in its current condition.

A bit late now but you should have done this... maybe try it and see if it does anything? https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/10-pentax-slr-lens-discussion/208353-how-...ml#post2203064

I considered that, but my cameras don't have debug mode (K-30 and K-01) And yeah, I doubt I'd get even $150 for it... hence the inability to decide.

At this point, if you're serious, and wouldn't mind paying to have it fixed up, shoot me a PM.

You realize that lens can be fixed for not much more really right? I don't know what enfield would charge, but CRIS would probably be in the ballpark of 2-300. A lot less than the cost of replacing it for sure. Sounds like it just needs reassembled properly. Seems like a waste to let a $1000 lens go for 150 when it can be repaired if you ask me. That's a significant loss of investment. Lenses are like new generally after a CLA/repair. I hate to be the voice of reason, but seriously, send it in and get it fixed by a trained professional.

The problem is, I don't exactly have the disposable income to get it fixed.I might keep ahold of it until I do then I suppose.
