Whatever else happens, the Tak 50 is the last manual focus lens left standing in this competition and that should count for something.

As much as I love my DA 35mm Ltd Macro, my SMC Tak 50/1.4 has also endeared itself. If we include the first 8-element Tak 50/1.4, this Tak model traces 50 years of heritage, and they're still enjoyed by many. You'll see that the 64 PF reviews accord the Tak 50 an average rating of 9.53, and the reviews are chock full of superlatives. Yes, folks, the optical and mechanical designers got the design absolutely right on this one.

The modern DA 35 Limited is a jewel in its own right. However, if we really want to recognize the greatest Pentax lens of all time, the fifty-year old Tak 50/1.4 is the one that was going strong long before the competitor was even a glimmer in the DA desinger's mind, and it's stood the test of time.

I say, vote for the one that has brought unmatched enjoyment to generations of photographers and delights many even today.

The DA 35 is razor sharp but for me it's the Tak, I love the character and colour I get with it. and it's easier to adapt to my new Fuji (though I could grab a premium aperture control adapter)

I have both, I love and I will keep both. Used on NEX camera, my Tak 50 is comparable to my Canon FD 50 f1.4 (which has a great reputation and a lot of aficionado). But the DA 35 ltd is special (check photonet discussing it as "optical paradigm"). I do not know of such a lens in other brands. It is not a question of sharpness where both my FA 31 and Sigma 35 Art beat it. It is the combination of sharpness, micro-contrast, color rendering and macro abilities that make it a joy to use.

The super tak is a great lens for sure, but for me the 35mm Limited is greater.
