so i have an fa31 on the way, and i'm curious if anyone could recommend an nd filter for shooting wide open in sunlight. i'm not looking for long exposures, just hoping to get down to 1.8 in bright light.

appreciate the input!

Using a high shutter speed with a low ISO setting should do the trick. If not getting a circular polariser (insead of a ND filter) should bring the light levels down enough to allow for f/1.8 to be used in broad daylight. Polarisers are preferred in this instance as they serve more than one function - elimination of unwanted reflections and they also reduce the amount of light passing through a lens so longer shutter speeds can be used.

And if that doesn't work (I know with my 55/1.2 80 iso and fast shutter sometimes isn't enough on a really bright day), a variable ND filter works great. There as just a review from one a couple weeks ago on the PF homepage: LightCraft Rapid ND Review - Previews and Reviews | PentaxForums.com

I purchased a Marumi CPL and have had good luck with it.

Here's one with the Polarizer and the FA 31
