The FA*24 is a very special lens indeed in terms of it's rendering character, different to the 20-40. Funds allowing, personally I don't see it as extraneous at all...
You have a gem in your hands, a Jun Hirakawa design, with striking contrast and beautiful colour-signature, plus lovely micro-contrast and bokeh to boot. Shots taken on this lens can have a "look" to them.
One thing I enjoy doing is bringing just this one lens and go walking about in the street. On APS-C its focal length works out to 36mm, thus its the classic photo-journalism focal-length. By "limiting" oneself to one lens/focal length, it can produce a series of interesting photographic results, in this case further aided by this lens' special rendering quality.
The above is not meant to put down the 20-40, which is a fine lens in its own right, I'm sure.
