Do I need all these lenses?

Hello!

I have the following lenses for my Pentax K3:

Pentax HD D FA 150-450mm f4.5-5.6ED
Pentax SMC DA* 60-250mm f/4 ED
Pentax 1.4x HD PENTAX-DA AF Rear Converte
Pentax D FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens
Sigma 17-50mm F2.8

I just bought the 150-450mm and I was thinking....do i need the 60-250 anymore? What shots that fall within the 50-150mm range anyway? And would I be able to use the 100mm Macro for those?

ALSO...

If these lenses were in your kit would you want any others, and why?

Yeah, I'd hang on to the 60-250mm. It's a lot more portable.

Yes...you need them all....the 60-250 is a big lens, but I suspect it's more portable than the FA150-450 and it's weather resistant. Plus you can use it with your TC to get out to about 350mm.
You have a versatile collection covering a very wide focal range with only a few high quality lenses so there's little you "need".
If I were to suggest an addition(s), it would probably be a fast prime on the order of the FA31, FA 50 1.7 or FA77. Check the Pentax FA lens reviews if you haven't already. They are all highly regarded.

I would love that kit. The only (well not only) lens I would probably get would be the DA 70 or FA 77 for portraits. Everything else is covered.

Very nice stable, I would keep them all, I like that you have three lens and the TC that are sealed. It's a great collection for wildlife, but I would want something a little wider too, maybe an ultrawide zoom or something like a 15 prime. Unfortunately there's not much wide in the current WR or AW choices, but that D FA "large diameter wide zoom" on the roadmap might be just the thing. I'm guessing that may debut with the FF.

I think that's just a start. You obviously need lots lots more lenses. You don't need to use them, they are just nice to look at on your lens shelf. How about a row of Limiteds.

Seriously though, hang onto your 60-250. I still can't believe how good my copy is. I can't believe any other zoom including the 150-450 could be better. (might be but just can't get over the stunning results from the 60-250)

I agree with Bob from Aus.
Well, you're obviously not broke, so even with your amazing lens line up I would want a small lens (or camera) for casual shooting on outings with family and friends. 21 or 20-40 or a 35 sort of thing. Even a 18-135. Or just Q or GR. Would be nice to have a GR in the pocket.

You have a gap between 50 and 60mm; if money permitted, a wide to short tele zoom with a more extensive long end would fix that, e.g. 17-70 or 16-85mm.

Hi, You asked if you needed all of those lenses.

I personally think that you don't need any of them, So please send them directly to me.

Seriously though!, Nice set, you've obviously go most things covered with what you have. I would consider something in the order of 10-20 however to get a full round up and keep the 60-250.

The DA 15 is what's missing.

Doesn't the 1.4x converter fit behind the Sigma zoom?

I think so too but perhaps the 12-24 as an alternative option.

I would want a wider angle lens. Your 17-50 is wide enough for most landscapes but I like an ultrawide for buildings and museums. The Tamron 10-24, Sigma 10-20, Pentax 12-24 can fill that role. I am happy with my Tamron; it has the widest zoom range of those 3.

It really depends upon your shooting preferences. I would probably drop the 60-250 and use the cash to buy a 12-24. I could also just as easily dump the 150-450 and the 100mm macro...replace that with the 12-24 and the 50mm macro and call it good. It just depends upon what suits your eye.

It's really hard to answer your question without knowing what you like to shoot. If you shoot landscapes or architecture, you'd probably enjoy some wider-angled primes. If you like street photography, you might want to add some wider (but not too wide) primes (in the 21-50 range), especially if you'd like something lightweight or unobtrusive. If you like to make portraits, then you might want to add the 50mm f/1.8 and/or 77mm f/1.8 to your collection. If you're keen on macro or close-up photography, you might look at adding the 35mm f/2.8 macro. (There is also a 50mm f/2.8 macro but mine gives me nothing but trouble so I won't recommend it.) Also, since you have the teleconverter, you can add it to the 35 to get you to a focal length close to the 50mm (although losing a stop of light).

If you photograph a lot when you travel and want a versatile streamlined kit, then it's hard to go wrong with the WR 18-135+WR 55-300, plus a fast and light prime like the 50.

Without knowing your specific preferences but making a recommendation based on some of my favorite lenses that seem to fill some gaps in your list, I'd recommend the super-inexpensive but really very good 50 mm f/1.8 (generally less than $150) and also the 35mm f/2.8 macro.
