Silver or black :)

Hej! (Swedish hello)

I have decided to buy a Pentax 15/4 LTD, but I can't decide which color to choose. I know it's a stupid question but here it is

On a black K3, can you mount a silver Ltd and get a way with it, or does it look crappy?
Is there any other drawbacks to a silver lens, scratches more easily or something?

For me a black body I use a black lens, or silver/black body use silver or black lens.

not to worry, but sometimes silver lens are cheaper (i don't know why) ^^ all black is classic and elegant though
The K-3 Prestige version is made so silver and black lens can all match the body nicely

See the in depth review of the HD DA 40 mm Limited. There are pictures of the lens in silver on a black body. I personally prefer the look of black on black and bought the DA 40 in black for my black K-3. Conversely, I would think that the black lens would look good on silver body. That is the classic legacy film SLR look.

Thx for all the replys, Went ahead and bought the black version. I personally think that silver would have looked dope, but it kind of defeats the purpose of having a stealthy looking lens for street photography. Its more of a look at me lens I guess =)

Believe it or not I too was undecided but chose a silver 15mm limited. It is my only silver lens and it is currently the lens attached to my camera.

I remember back in the days of SLR's the silver cameras were the less expensive choice and black cameras were the professional versions.

Though I think a silver lens would look better with a silver camera the silver 15mm looks just right on the black camera bodies. When I take my camera to large events the silver lens on a black body catches the eye of those Canon and Nikon minions.

It's easier to sell a black used camera than a silver one and that applies to both film and digital.

I have one silver lens and don't like it because the body of the lens (and its silver hood!) reflect sunlight into my eyes. Black lenses absorb light.

Some newer Pentaxers might not realize that, when the first two Limiteds (the 43/1.9 and the 77/1.8) were introduced (back in "Ye Olde Film Days of Yore", in the late 1990's), they were released only in silver, and it was a year or two for each before they were made available in black.

So, my first (and only) 43/1.9 was silver, and I sold it (I didn't care for the barrel distortion) before the black 43's were available. OTOH, my first 77/1.8 was silver, but I sold it only after picking up one of the first black ones. So, the above pix were taken after I had the black 77 in my hot little hands but before I had sold off the silver one.

Personally, in general, I prefer black bodies and black lenses. However, for long telephotos, I don't mind lighter colored lenses (e.g., tan in the F* 300/4.5) due to the slower and less pronounced solar heating (with subsequent focus shift) in them.

Is that a "bug" or a "feature"?

Interesting! I didn't know that, I have Always thought that silver looked more classic for some reason, and I guess I was right =)

I live far up north in Sweden so I don't have any problem with "solar heating"

I'll admit that lens looks great in silver, even on a black body. It has a very classic look.
