Sigma 18-250

Sigma 18-250mm F3.5-6.3 DC Macro HSM for Pentax K Cameras

The reviews on the forum are very good. This price is the best I've seen. I may pull the trigger. To use at those times I want one lens with me.

I would like to hear from folks who have this. Danka.

I owned it for a while and liked it. Great range, decent IQ, and HSM silent focus. I have owned Tam 18-250 and Sig 18-200dc, this newer one is as good or better.

I bought one for traveling, to replace a Pentax 18-135 which did not have quite enough range. Paired with a Sigma 8-16 and a Pentax 35mm macro I have found it 100% satisfactory for some kinds of travel-touring, depending on what I expect to be seeing, visiting and imaging. The price is probably down because of the the newer 18-300 which seems to have almost identical performance characteristics.

Ours has been sent out for repair once, is still decentered, and is probably our least used lens. But we do use it from time to time. The thing is, some days you just get lazy. You're going out with friends, you aren't going to be able to stop for lens changes, and you want to document the outing. For that it's great. The downside is definitely the bokeh. Among the lenses we own, it's handling of out of focus areas is definitely the worst. But for subject resolution, it doesn't have that sharp 18-135 centre, but it's better edge to edge in the long end. You can take very good pictures with this lens.

I'd say a good lens to use, when you're feeling lazy and won't have time for lens changes... but there's not anything wrong with being like that every now and then. Normally I cover its range with the 18-135 and 60-250, but, that's a lot of money comparatively. My friend Mona bought this lens with her D3200 and never bought anything else. It's good enough for some people to do that.
