I think i will buy the new Pentax K1 in the USA. I have to go to meet the family of my wife

With that in mind, i want to choose a not-so-expensive walk-around zoom for the new camera.
Two possible choices are the old Sigma EX DF f/2,8 28-70mm and the more recent Sigma EX DG Macro f/2,8 24-70mm.
Of course the latter has a wider choice of focals, but i'm more concerned about image quality. In theory the 28-70 should be better (rather standard lens project).
Any suggestion?
Anybody with first hand experience with both?

My Sigma 24-70 HSM EX f/2.8 allows for pixel peeping, is decently sharp wide open and by f/4 the sharpness gets better.

I would go with the slightly wider option. 24mm is nice on FF.

The two lenses aren't really comparable. Sigma has come a long ways with their zoom lenses, and the DF model wasn't well liked even in its day. However, it is cheap. Apparently (based on the reviews here), the DG version is a bit better. The Tamron 28-75 is better yet (especially starting at f/4). The Sigma DG 24-70 you mention should be quite good indeed, and you'll pay more for the quality. You should make the most out of your new body, I would think.
