DFA macro WR on K-1 : step-down ring as hood replacement

Hi,

many people know of the trick to use a 49-28mm step-down ring for the DFA 100mm macro WR, when used on APS-C. It creates a fully operational hood, more compact and effective than the original one.

It doesn't work so well with full frame. There is visible vignetting which is of course not surprising (no black corners, thankfully).

I was wondering if anyone tried a step-down ring with a larger diameter, to perform the same task on FF. It seems 49-37mm step down rings are fairly common, but I don't have any on hand to test. Would those work well, without causing vignetting?

Can't help with your specific question I'm afraid, but like the step down ring idea, but can't source one anywhere. Is there a single 49-28 ring, or do you stack two?

On full frame, the very effective hood (sized for 100mm FoV on FF) is the one supplied with the lens

I have used 40mm limited lens hood on DFA macro WR for APC-C (Pentax K5ii). It has internal diameter 31.5. Worked for me well. Eventually I bought inexpensive aftermarket substitution and returned 40mm hood back to where it belongs. But I have no idea how that will work for full frame. The opening is just marginally wider compare to 49-28 step up ring.

The hood is useless when focused close. It's cumbersome at all times, especially when reversed for carrying.

When I bought mine, they were common, now I can't find them either. Nowadays, 49-37 seems to be the only one-step available. Stacking two would work, of course.
