Tokina AF205 28-105mm f3.5-4.5

Hi all

Does anyone have any experience with this lens? I searched a lot on Google but had very little help. In fact the total number of pages returned by the search was only 3! And this includes a general search (including all other mounts, not just Pentax KA). However, the little that's there seemed to praise this lens. So I was wondering if anyone has owned/used this lens.

Thanks much

not sure if this applies to the AF205, I borrowed a tokina 28-105 f3.5-4.5 in the minolta alpha mount attached to to my fs-100 video camera via sony LA-EA4 adaptor and in my experience it was heavy, wide open ridiculously sharp in the center but very soft corners and a ton of chromatic aberration despite this its a very contrasty lens.

Hi Ratcheteer, thanks for the reply and the info. So did the corners improve if stopped down?

it does but its not as good as the edges on most shorter lens (24-70/28-80) lens but having that longer range and kinda vintage but contrasty like rendering makes up for the compromise, its just a shame that it weighs so much.

Well, it's listed at 420g for the A-mount. I have been looking at one which has been modified to the K-mount. So it should weigh a bit more or less than that but around that ballpark. You're right that it's kinda heavy for a variable aperture lens but if the image quality can compensate for that, I don't mind the weight. I mean those Tammys and Sigmas weigh much more than that.
