My Pentax 150-450 has just turned itself into a brick. One of the drive motor electrical contacts has broken off so autofocus is no longer functional. Unfortunately, the lens won't work in manual focus mode either. Fortunately, I am just finishing a birding trip to Stewart Island off the south of New Zealand's South Island. Looks like i am off to C..Kennedy when I get back home to Oz.

Such a shame to hear Adrian. I'm a bit suss about my 150-450 but it's not failed completely yet. I just get this odd loss of focal length being recorded and a series of images with significant underexposure (in Constant/High drive mode on a K-1).

Anyhoo, I dropped my K-1 off to Troy last week and he was really good to deal with, hopefully the rest of the experience is the same and my K-1 comes back all sorted.

Good luck mate.

These things are frustrating. I hope yours is fixed at little expense.

My DA* 55 AF contact bent.. I bent it back and then it broke off when i put it on the camera. I'm really at a loss of what to do. I've considered aluminum foil..

One of the two power supply contacts? They do protrude a bit, making them vulnerable to scrapes or knocks I guess.

Mine is yes. Between the two screws just below the glass there. Seems like it should be a relatively easy fix.. if I had the eyesight and expertise. I love trying to fix things but this is so minuscule I can hardly feel it let alone see it.

Anyone know if the AF contacts can be replaced at home?

Buy an used PZ lens, broken one for parts if possible. You can take the contacts from PZ lenses and they should fit on the mount. If too long or too short to touch the metal underneath, you can modify them a little.

Yes, unscrew the two little screws on the sides and pry the plastic holder carefully. pretty easy to remove.

Oh I didn't think of that. Thanks! PZ meaning Power Zoom from the FA lenses?

Something like this? http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Pentax-PZ-70-QD-35mm-SLR-Film-Camera-with-35-80mm-len...YAAOSwA3dYC1KC

Yes. They might be same, or might be a little longer or shorter, but the end that touches camera contactor should be same.

I've found a list of PZ lenses.
-SMC Pentax-FA 28-80mm F3.5-4.7
-SMC Pentax-FA 28-105mm F4-5.6
-SMC Pentax-FA 70-200mm F4-5.6
-SMC Pentax-FA 100-300mm F4.5-5.6
-SMC Pentax-FA* 28-70mm F2.8 AL
-SMC Pentax-FA* 80-200mm F2.8 ED [IF]
-SMC Pentax-FA* 250-600mm F5.6 ED [IF]

Do you think a standard AF contact from any F, FA, DA lens would work too?
