The K-50 inherited almost all its technical features from the K-30, whose AF system, light metering etc. had proven to be reliable and convincing. Only the maximum available ISO was increased from ISO-25600 to ISO-51200. Thus the main difference between both cameras is the body design which (in comparison to the K-30) is rounder, more traditional, and less juvenile.

The biggest difference is the top LCD display on the K5. I like that, and use it all the time.
The K30 introduced focus peaking, which can help with manual lenses.

The K30 has focus peaking, a less intrusive AA filter and better AF than the K5.

The K5 is more configurable and has 14-bit files instead of the 12-bit K30 limitation. It also goes to ISO80.

Focus peaking may be the only thing I'd like to add to my K5, that's how satisfied I am with it, so I'm sure both the K5 and the K30 (or K50) will work well for you, but the K30 does give that focus peaking advantage if you like manual focus lenses.

The K-5 is a substantially more advanced camera but since it is an older generation it does not have some features such as peaking.
If you want a lightweight camera with excellent image quality and controls via menu, get the K-30.
If you want a heavier camera with excellent image quality and more controls on the body get the K-5.

Why not the K5II or the K5IIs? Both are more advanced than the K5 as it is an older generation camera.

Probably price. The original K5 is still an excellent camera and a bargain at current prices..

After shooting a K10D, I was amazed with when I acquired a K5. The K5 is a very nice camera.
