Problem with M42 lens.

I have a SuperTakumar 105mm f2.8 lens that doesn't seem to work with my new K5iis. I think my camera is set up right because it works with my old K mount 135 just fine. I set the aperture ring, press the green button tpo meter, focus then shoot. The camera fires but the review screen is black. The camera seems to meter at an awful high shutter speed fot the setting and light available. I just used this lens a couple weeks ago on my K01 and it worked just fine. Any ideas? Thanks Bob

I use Av mode with my Takumars. Set the lens switch to manual, select Av mode on the camera, set aperture on the lens, focus and shoot. No green button needed. Of course the viewfinder dims when the lens is stopped down, but for outdoor shooting it works fine for me. However, if the lens switch is set to auto, the lens will shoot wide open no matter what aperture I select. That might explain your high shutter speeds.

Shooting mode to Av, lens clutch to manual. Also, Takumars tend to underexpose at wide aperture. Allow +2 EV at widest aperture and adjust from there.

The easiest way to use M42 lenses is to set the camera to Av exposure mode and the A/M lever on the lens to M. Focus with the lens wide open, then set the aperture you want and shoot. The camera will expose correctly.

Good news. After trying everything to no avail I did a factory reset and it works now. Now that scared me.

It's perfectly true that M42 lenses (best with preset ring) are easier-to-be-used than K or M lenses.
But the downside is the need of an adapter.
Nothing's perfect in this world.
