Return to the sea
Lens: DA*16-50, DA*300 Camera: K-3 Photo Location: Waddensea ISO: 100
Posted By: Fries, 08-27-2014, 03:20 PM

Holiday, work and the feeling I should mix it up and choose some other photographic avenues prevented me from taking pictures on the sea side for some time, but I couldn't resist the siren song of the Waddensea anymore and succumbed to here call...

1. 72 second long exposure

2. Hight tide (cropped a bit after a comment from a member of the Dutch Pentaxian forum with a very good eye!)

Both are great, but I like the second for its mood.

Both great captures, but the last is a great evocation of your Golden Age, with each fluitship a strand in that great web of commerce.

Thank you! This type of ship is a called an tjalk and was mainly used for inland transport of goods. But this one has been converted for recreational use. Here is a better picture.

Thanks Bob! There is a chance the second one will be used (a bit adapted because the format isn't totally right) for a album cover.

Cheers,

Remco

I really dig that second shot - what a creative way to emphasize the subject. Really creative - as usual from you.

Outstanding, thanks for the second shot....those ships must have really shallow drafts!

Thanks Jer! I saw the boat coming and realized it would line up perfectly with the rocks I already took some boatless photo's of.

I've worked as shipmate for about five or six summers with paying clients on one of these boats and the deepest point (just before the rudder) was about 80 centimeters I think. There is no keel but there are two wooden 'swords' on each side that can be lowered to keep the ship from going sidewards.

Cheers,

Remco

Excellent, and very informative--don't think I'd be up for a Channel crossing in one, though.

Ha, not in these ships no! But there were also sea going ships more or less similar to this type of ship. One special type was used to transport eel (fish) to the London fish market. Over here Meevaren Palingaak op donderdag 18 september 18:00 uur - Vvv Zuidwest Friesland you can find some information and photo's of a replica.
