The Fisherman
Lens: Pentax DA 55-300 mm Camera: Pentax K-5 Photo Location: Near Malibu, CA ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/2000s Aperture: F5

Another picture from the big wave day last Thursday, this one is at Point Mugu, with Anacapa Island in the distance.

What this guy was fishing for, I don't know. The perch he's on seems to high to fish from, and the cliff isn't even close to vertical, so finding a fish that's willing to get beaten up by the waves, and then dragging it up the cliff without snagging the line, that seems like a real challenging idea to me. But I'm no fisherman!

a lovely composition Jerry, it's about fishing and not the fish.

Beautiful colours, I thought for a minute it was an oil painting. Just the right exposure length to soften the water movement and the colour of the sunlght turns the blue water almost to gold. You could almost miss the fisherman out completely and still have a great image.

As Bob says, it's the act of fishing not the catch! Well done.

Great Seascape image. The golden light on the surf is really nice.

I'm a fisherman and I'm mystified. I'm also a photographer and I'm envious--wonderful photo!

Thanks everyone! This wasn't an easy picture to get. First, contrast was very high, so I had to bracket, and second, with autofocus on, I couldn't tell whether the image was going to be in focus or not. It turns out that it wasn't, which is why I took it into Topaz Simplify to hide that. There's also a flare just to the left of the base of the cliff that I really couldn't get rid of. The islands were almost invisible due to the haze so I had to darken them. I appreciate your comments, it makes me feel like all that effort was worthwhile!
