I'll tell you I really looked like a tourist with two cameras walking around the canyon. I shot the first photo with the K5 and 18-250 tele lens and the second was taken with the K3 and 43mm lens which I forgot and left a ND 8 filter on it which darkened the image too much for a later afternoon shot. I think it is the editing that gave the photo the contrast harshness as you stated. I've only edited a few of the photos I took last week but the photos with the K3 and 43mm all turned out great using the filter earlier in the day in direct sunlight.
