Birds of the day 2015-01-25
Lens: F 70-210 Camera: K-3 Photo Location: Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada ISO: 320 Aperture: F8

I went off to the park to take advantage of the sunshine. Mostly the same birds that are in my back yard with no wood peckers but some Gray Jays...

Chickadees

Nut hatches

Gray Jays

Even at the Visitor's Centre feeders there isn't much, the guys who work are saying it's a really bad year for birds.

Very nice images Norm, not even going to pick a favourite. We have had no birds at the feeder for a couple of weeks now, before that a flock of Redpolls hang around for a few days and the occasional House Finch. Very strange because usually this time of year I have a hard time keeping the feeders stocked.

Very nice. And not with a typical birding lens either!

This is getting somewhat worrisome. There are few migrating birds at the Algonquin Park feeding station this year. All the finches are gone. There's usually hundreds of them. I've seen maybe 6 finches all winter. I'm started if Monsanto has finely destroy our finch populations after years of concerted effort to do so.

Thanks. These birds are all pretty tame. The 70-210 would be pretty near useless with birds that aren't used to people. But these birds are cared for by park visitors. I probably feed them two or three times a year. But there are hundreds of others who also go and feed them.

I should never do this stuff after 9 o'clock at night....
Oh, that's my product ID number, did it not scan for you?

OK, OK, it's not a product ID, I fixed it... it was just a little mistake.

Wonderful shots, Norm. I always look for your posts.
Here in Toronto, bird count at our feeders is down too.

Great stuff, Norm. I don't know how you do this with such a relatively short lens.

Tame birds that are used to eating off people's hands Gerry.... the secret to great wildlife photography is animals that are accustomed to humans. Although I should also add, rechecking the images, #2,3 and 4 were taken with the A-400.
