Old traditions still alive

I'm not sure this tradition (or bad habbit) is known in your part of the world ...

In my neigbourhood a young couple got married. When you get married here and people "assume" or believe to know that the woman is pregnant already (how shocking!!) some crazy or drunken (or both) young men climb up the roof at night to install a stroller and a stork to let everybody know ...

In the past - and I mean long ago - this could be quite bad for the young couple. But today obviously everybody is just happy and looking forward to new life in our small village. And it is allways a good reason to drink a nice cold beer!

Old world habits, all good in my book of habits. Pretty much unimaginable here in the US. I love it. Hope everyone enjoyed the celebration!

What a delightful tradition, Norbert. In fact . . . . . . now that I think about it . . . . . . . . any tradition that ultimately leads to a nice cold beer is OK in my book!

what a sweet tradition Norbert, never heard of that one before but is certainly a great idea for future baby gifts.

Exactly! It's not a secret that the reason for most German traditions is creating another opportunity to drink a beer

Thank you Bob. Occasonally somewone may fall from the rooftop, but that is also part of the tradition I guess

I didn't read well enough into that part of the story last night. Yes, I agree. I am 41, Czech, and I remember the stigmas of "they had to marry". Luckily things have changed. A powerful photograph!

That is exactly the phrase we used in German (Sie mussten heiraten). And you are right, it is good this attitude has changed. Thanks!
