And there was a brieff discussion of one of my mom's crazy theories that my grandfather was Jewish on this trip. The fact that his first name was "Christian" kind of ruled that out.

FWIW, back in the 18th Century a persistent theory was that the Native Americans/First Nations were descended from the Lost Tribes of Israel--a theme most famously elaborated by the Chickasaw trader, James Adair, in his History of the American Indians (1775). (Of course, in the next century Joseph Smith added his own spin on the matter...)

It is a couple hours drive and half hour hike from my house, so I go every time I can, but believe it or not, there were 6 people on this trip, and I made the trip down to this location solo, 45 minutes from my campsite. Hot weather sucks the life out of even the most intrepid campers.
