First Night with the DA 15 Limited (3 images)
Lens: DA15 (non-HD)
Posted By: DeadJohn, 10-06-2015, 07:48 PM

Photos below, but first let me bore you with a short story.

I have a lot of overlapping wide angle lenses. My first ultrawide lens was a Tamron 10-24. I like it but it is not well suited for astrophotography, so I added a Samyang 14 to my collection. The Samyang is good for Milky Way shots, but it didn't city nightscapes because of that big bulbous front element flaring whenever a street light hit it. My DA* 16-50 also gets ugly flares from street lights. Only one thing to do, get a DA 15 Limited. I originally ordered one from KEH that arrived DOA - it was disappointing but their return process was effortless - and just received a LN- copy from them for $360.

Time to aim into streetlights!

Oh, yeah, very pleased. The DOA was a weird electronic issue that made the camera think the lens was manual focus whenever the focus ring was at infinity. AF operated fine at other focus distances.

Nice pictures. The DA 15 is on my list for a prime ultra wide angle, so keep posting!

Interesting post with some really pleasing night shots.

I bought the Samyang (Rokinon) 14 mm lens as well and am happy with it, but haven't noticed the flaring. Maybe because I don't take many night city shots like this, so I'll have to experiment. The 15 mm looks like it's a great lens.

It's fun, isn't it? The 15 is such a unique lens. It appears you've discovered that already. Nice shots!

The wide angles do produce their own special version of LBA, I feel.
