Heron behavioural shots (A300mmF4)
Posted By: danielchtong, 04-29-2009, 03:29 PM

These were taken during the last 10 days on and off . All with A*300mmF4 1/2000s or faster

I need some kind of warm up when shooting fast actions for the coming season. Shooting girls were good during wintry time

They are done now. And I think that was the only time when I could safely predict where their flight path were (from pick up ground to their rookeries).

Heinrich, and, daacon, drmartin, wildman

Thanks for the positive comment. We are heading into summer now and there is more birding opportunity for this old man who has been shooting models indoor during the harsh wintry months

Thanks. Not much chance of nailing their flight direction and of course their location after their nesting is done.

They tend to be pretty good portrait subject when they are standing still to hunt which makes it tough to nail in flight shots. The bad part is that they give you 2 seconds notice before taking off for a flight shot. It does not matter if you have long or short lens. Brutal

We have a lot of heron here in Idaho and I haven't been able to capture any good "in flight" shots.

Very nice!

Really like the 3rd one. Think she'd have it on the wall of the nest.
