I think I finally got the Rokinon 8mm 3.5 HD focusing correctly.. out of the box it didn't seem to handle infinity well. I've used the sigma 10-20mm ultra wide for a few years, but this is my first real attempt with something this wide... and it was handheld. But the day was bright, the sky was unbearably blue, so I went to the park and took about 100+ shots while screwing and unscrewing the focus ring til I could make out the signs on the buildings across the river with it set at infinity and get details on the picnic table I was sitting at with it set to 2 feet, and once I got that locked in, I walked around and snapped a few more shots.
South Bend's East Race -- first man-made white water rapid in the USA. And it's part of an actual river, not some isolated thing with pumps and stuff. They can adjust the flow rate and raise and lower the bumpers (or whatever they're called) in the river, to make it harder or easier. Some days, it's set up perfect to go down in an inner tube... some days, it's set up for olympic level kayaking. I'll stick with taking photos from dry land.
Fireman monument statue at Seitz Park
The waterfall that powers the East Race. The big orange thing that looks like an I-beam mated with an old TV antenna is called "keepers of the fire." I just realized a couple of years ago that the shiny silver bit on the back of it actually can catch the wind and move the statue. I think it only goes about 45 degrees, though, not all the way around. The arrow bit is always pointing across the river.
