First off, I'd like to thank dgaies for putting-in the time and effort to take these wonderful images and uploading them for us grope over.

Secondly... I'd like to mention that these are early renders of what I'd like call a long lasting relationship.
For what its worth, I'd like to think that we will only see improvements as we become more familiar with the K-5 files over time.

Having said that, this doesn't mean we can't have a little fun along the way either right?

Keeping in mind, that the ISO51200 file does not come cheap(effort vs reward), but could be useful nonetheless

These are stunning...
I'm not an NR-off purist....the K-7 kind of forced me to learn how to do work the NR sliders, without ending up with a "plastic" photo.

Not only are the unprocessed files relatively clean, they also appear to have plenty of latitude to do NR.

Well done. It looks like images shot at even the crazy high ISO's could be good after some PP. That could certainly be useful sometimes.

Looks like the K-5 DNG's have an awful lot of working headroom in them, retaining very reasonable IQ and detail right up the scale.

I didn't mean full-size, just a small 100% crop, because right now the processed versions look noise-free right up to ISO51200.

I leave more grain in than John, this is my own preference.
Its opened from DNG in ACR6.2, and done Chroma NR in RAW conversion, and then the rest is Topaz Denoise 5 and masks.

It's ridiculous what you have done! Looking at the pp you have done, it's hard to believe, although I suppose the 100% (or crops of 100%) will tell the difference. Can you please share with us how you did it, and what you actually did with those original raw files. Thanks.

JohnBee, whatever workflow & tools you are using for NR are absolutely fantastic. I use Nik's Dfine but don't get anything like as good results as you.

Could you please please share the steps you take and the tools you use?

Wow, John, that is amazing. Clearly the 25,000 - 50,000 iso would only be useful for web shots, but still, even there it cleaned up pretty nicely. Thanks for the work you've put into these (although you've also made an awful lot of people want a camera they can't afford as well).

These threads are almost like JSherman's "I got a new lens" threads...

From what I recall, some of John's work on K20D files (should be somewhat similar to a K7 file) were pretty amazing as well
