Weekly Challenge #291 "It's seen better days"
Posted By: charliezap, 07-10-2014, 06:54 AM

OK boys and girls.Another week another challenge. This theme has been in my mind for a while when in my travels I saw an old beat up bicycle leaning against a tree.Use your imagination for this challenge and yes people can be considered along with places and objects and whatever you think "has seen better days"---charliezap

The challenge will run until midnight my time(Boston area) Thursday July 17th.

Every week, a new theme is picked and judged by the winner of the previous week.

Everyone is eligible to send in their best interpretation of the given theme, as long as the photo is taken with a Pentax/Samsung camera. Themes can be subject-oriented or technique-oriented.

Rules
1. Post ONE photo (max 1024x1024).
2. The photo must portray an interpretation of the theme.
3. Post your single picture in this thread and explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly theme (especially if it's not obvious).
4. The challenge is interactive. Any response is welcome.
5. The judge will pick the WINNERS and choose one of them to be the judge for the next week.
6. This challenge runs for 7 days plus an additional day for the judge to choose the winners.
7. Any Pentax (or Samsung DSLR) camera can be used.
8. Pictures can be from any time frame, not just within the week of the current theme.
9. In case the winner of a challenge is unable to become the judge for the next challenge, they will PM the #2 winner for that person to be the judge.

I think that I have all the bases covered for this week's Challenge. Here are a couple of ideas from my old files. I may add another as the Challenge progresses.
Release the hounds--the game is afoot.

Jim Thompson Cottage

THE DISAPPEARANCE OF JIM THOMPSON
He set off for an early evening pre-dinner stroll, but it was an act that was to spark off one of the biggest unsolved mysteries of all time.

When Jim Thompson left his guesthouse in Malaysia's Cameron Highlands on March 26 1967 to walk Jungle Trek number 4, surely no one could have imagined he would never be seen again. His body has never been found. It wasn't long before the conspiracy theories began to circulate - among the most popular that he was eaten by a tiger or, being a former OSS agent, was part of some elaborate kidnap plot. They stayed at the Moonlight Bungalow which still exists today. The pre-War unit was first built in 1933 by Societe Francaise des Mines d’Etain de Takka, a French mining company

Until today his disappearance has been a mystery and many conspiracy theories had been put forth.

Pentax K-x, 18-55mm kits lens, and shot at 18mm F3.5, ISO100, Exposure 1/800sec.

This is one of a number of captured images of this 1940 International Harvester pickup truck.

Well the theme could probably be met with a self portrait given the way I feel today... but how about something from nature?

The remains of a barge on the banks of the Murray River near Boundary Bend in Victoria. This was once used to carry log trucks across the river, the nearest road bridge being 30 miles in either direction.

I just did a shoot at one of my old estates locally earlier. The whole area is undergoing redevelopment and has already been evacuated.

The playground has definitely seen better days. With it been under redevelopment, the estate management has also stop maintaining this playground. A pity though, as the place is shaded by very mature Samanea saman (Rain Trees)

This picture was a tie between a abandoned house toilet that I took at the same time, but I figured the playground tells a bit more of the state of the area than it.

The Speed Indicator

This rattlertrap was left on the right side of street and I was inspired when I saw it. The speed indicator does not anymore tell anything about speed, but it whispers the good times if one looks close enough.

Worn Out Stool Rails

How many boots and slippers have occupied this stool, drinking, smoking, laughing and talking; enough to wear through the rails?
