PROJECT 52-6-41- LIGHTING-Creating shadows
Posted By: noelcmn, 11-23-2014, 01:18 PM

Welcome to PROJECT 52-6 for the year 2014.

PROJECT 52-6-41- Lighting-Creating Shadows

Images for Project 52-6-41 are to be taken between the 24th November 2014 and 30th November 2014.

Rules
1. Anyone and everyone interested in the challenge is eligible. The goal continues to be
have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques with fellow
Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-6 thread for the week. Explain what
motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color
saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by non Pentax cameras are allowed.
Cameras may be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot, Medium Format, et cetera.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post
black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is
active to be eligible for judging.
8. Any picture taken from thread start date to listed closing date is acceptable. You may request to submit a photo outside of the time frame, but its acceptance is dependent o the judge of the week. Please try and keep to within a day or two (either way 92% the week. This is to make allowances for those that would like to participate, but for one or other reason, are not able to do so during the time given for the challenge, such as illness, weather, travelling etc.
9. The WINNER of each weekly challenge is the JUDGE of the next week's Project 52-6.
10. The Facilitator (in this case noelcmn) may participate in the challenge, provided he/she is not the judge.
11. Closing date for the challenge is Sunday at midnight in your time zone. Late entries are accepted but subject to the acceptance by the current weeks
Judge.

Here are some of the winning entries from previous challenges on the subject. Once again, they are inspiring.

Good luck everyone!

I am going to try. With the holidays getting a good time to shoot might be a challenge...I love the concept of the challenge but the holidays might hamper me some. I will give it my best shot.

I vote for re-introducing this topic at a later date. Like after the holidays. I personally haven't had a chance to shoot pictures for a while now. Between work and getting ready for thanksgiving and shopping for Christmas presents and all that jive... I've been swamped.

I am going to do this 'challenge' one way or another if for nothing other than personal interest. I think it's very instructive. But I will be doing most of my shooting after Christmas (unless in the rare event that I get all my shopping done sooner)...

I do have an entry, although I had a tough time choosing between 4 alternatives, each with their own different strengths and weaknesses (you can see the others, should you be interested, on my Flickr page).
I chose this one because the curvy shadowy shapes look like they have been spray-painted on, the curved lines remind me of the work Spanish/Catalan painter Joan Miro, and because of the extreme depiction of the texture of the concrete. Taken with my Pentax K-x and my Pentax SMC F 35-70mm 3.5-4.5 zoom at ISO 200, 35mm focal length, f22.0, 1/25th second exposure.

EDIT - If it is not inconvenient for the judge, I have decided to withdraw this entry in favor of another (which is posted further on). I'm leaving this up in case the judge would prefer to stick with this entry (say if he has already critiqued this and would rather get on with the judging).

I too have failed to produce anything for this challenge, and suggest a one week extension.
OK, I saw you posted the new challenge, so I have to post the only shot which has some shadows created with light of my flash.

If you look closely, you'll see some shadows under the spider which created by it's legs. that's the only thing I have.
Shot with DA50/1.8 with additional help from a Raynox DCR-150 and a ring flash.

I took this Thanksgiving morning. I am not sure if he was playing dead , just wanting his belly rubbed , or just wanted to be in the way. He is my wife's one year
old kitty. He is OK. I rubbed his chin and he got up and went to the other room. This is the only chance I had with all the Family here for the weekend.

Here's mine from the food court in Grand Central Station. The shadows help really set off the architectural highlights and give depth to the shot.

There's still a few hours to go before I close this. Late entries are acceptable!

Shadow on Wallpaper.

Noel - If it is not too late, I would like to make the following my official entry. After sleeping on my previous decision, I think that this entry is more clear and direct in compositional terms. If, on the other hand, you have already critiqued the previous entry and you are anxious to finish up with the results, then you may use my initial entry and ignore this one.

This is also taken with my K-x and SMC Pentax F 35-70mm 3.5-4.5 zoom lens at a 35mm focal length, ISO 200, f8.0, 1/20th second shutter speed.
