Welcome to another round of Picture of the Week. This is edition #349, covering 2nd - 8th February 2015.

This week I will be traveling abroad and while I have my gear with me, I can't upload anything but JPG's straight from the camera, which I hate. So I'll kindly ask you guys to start things up!

Thanks for hosting Hattifnatt. Excellent birds Billy! I'm sitting here thinking it won't be long before the warblers are back, but wait, it's going down to 4 degrees fahrenheit tonight, wait awhile warblers! So we'll still have this to contend with for a while:

Sunday afternoon it snowed like crazy, so of course I went to the woods, The temperature was actually around freezing and above so it was really nice. On the way to the woods I took thhe photo of the cows, it was taken at 300mm through the falling snow, very low visibility.

My FA 31mm finally arrived from repairs at Asahi Photo, London. They've recalibrated the lens too - first test shot with it using the pop-up flash and some PP.

The first time I have used the Sigma for anything but cricket where it lives on a monopod. Very pleased with this as it was hand held at the long end

Thanks for hosting again Hattifnatt. some wonderful photos so far. Papa, so nice to see your kids on the forum again- they are CUTE! And some newcomers to be welcomed- Welcome to PF and POTW in particular. I have been participating in the Singles in February challenge, where my chosen lens for the month is the Rikenon 50mm F2. Not the best lens by a long shot, soft on the focus side. I am getting used to it. Here are a couple of shots. Nothing special.

I was back out on the ice again Sunday, photographing the motorcycle and ATV races. Very cold and very snowy this week.

Conditions were rough on racers and photographers. I was the only one who stayed the day.


Sometimes mistakes work out. I was forced to switch to my K300/4 due to the weather conditions. AF just wasn't working. I neglected to push the green button and meter on my first shot and ended up with a pretty overexposed shot but pulling back a couple of stops on the exposure slider in PP ended with this.
