I have only one word for Scomatic-Some enemies just don't learn from past mistakes ! I am surprised, as I thought Mtux had it in the bag with that lovely homely shot with a surprising amount of lovely colors. Thank you Scomatic, I appreciate the honor, and for keeping me out of my favorite challenge next week. Congrats Mtux and Tamia for your podium positions, and Jim P and JCDoss. Some fine photography displayed here in this weeks Project 52. Thanks Scomatic for judging duties well done. Btw, if I ever even think of being professional photographer, I'll call upon you to talk some sense into my brain. Its all done mostly for fun.

Some comments on your Photo Scomatic - it would not have won Two things that I would have corrected, the one being the slant/angle- looks a bit like the plate may fall off the table at any moment. The other is the cutting the plate on the right. But the colors are terrific and it certainly tickles my palate-it looks scrumptious. Is that a red curry? I like both the green and red curries. Scores as follows:

Congrats to Noel on win. Lovely shot. Congrats also to mtux, Tamia, Jc and Jim. Those kinds of images are why I don't participate very often. Good job everyone. I'm going to go have a bite to eat now.

Congratulations Noel, Mtux and Tamia for your winning top honors and to Jim P and Jason for your honorable mentions. I enjoyed each of the entries this week.

Thank you Scomatic for sharing your insights and for your judging. I did want to discuss 2 items you mentioned about my photo.

As regards the sharpness of my photo, I believe that it may seem less sharp not so much because of the lens but because the photo is a crop that covers about 20% of the area of the original photo and perhaps also because I was shooting with a high ISO (1600). If you still think this may be more of a lens issue, then I would certainly take this observation under advisement.

I also wanted to ask about your reference to "the foreign item" in my photo. Are you referring specifically to the hand in the upper right hand corner of the image (writing a tag)? Or did you also have in mind the hand in the left side of the photo (reaching for the bread sample)? I'm asking because of your suggestion to focus on the food and the signage (which suggests that you may think the photo would be stronger without the hand reaching in from the left). While I made a deliberate decision to leave the hand in on the upper right, I think you are correct in pointing out that that may not have been my best decision (it distracts from what the rest of the photo is about).

I appreciate your observations and comments and I am asking about these issues in order to make sure I understand the points you are trying to make.

I'm looking forward to our new challenge.

bill - I said the object is the right corner - hand... Why you shoot at so high iso? I thinking iso 400-800 will do...

---------- Post added 03-19-15 at 08:48 AM ----------

noel... Oouch... In your enemies list again -.-'

I'm purpose put the plate and focus angle like that, who know terrified. That is red curry...

Thanks for the clarification. That is what I thought you meant but I was not completely sure.

I was shooting handheld in poor light conditions and I wanted to shoot at a set aperture of 8 to assure a more reasonable depth of field while trying to maintain a reasonably fast shutter speed. I actually started out shooting at an ISO of 800 which worked OK for some shots (out in the open) but was resulting in a slower shutter speed than I wanted. If I was more deliberate in my shooting on this occasion I might have found a better compromise. I do think the heavy cropping was the major part of the problem and that the high ISO merely compounded the issue.

Thanks again for your feedback.

Congratulations Noel for your win, and further congratulations to Mtux, Tamia, Jim P and Jason. I think it is a well chosen winner. Nice colours, it makes me want to eat (and apparently everyone elso, too) and the rose on the plate is just a wonderful extra detail.

Thank you Scomatic for judging and the comments. I appreciate them!

Congratulations Noel! Your photo was good enough to eat. I'd love to know what the name is on those delicacies. They look scrumptious!

Congratulations also to Mehrdad/mtux, Jim P, and Jason/JCDoss for your wonderfully hunger-making photos, too. Thanks for a podium place, Scomatic, and even more, for your thorough judging and for the subject matter, though I have to say that the entrants' pictures doomed my mission to eat lightly and sensibly. I'll have to get Patrick to let me know his method of losing weight -- well done, that.
