PROJECT 52-8-21 - SHAPES-Repetition
Posted By: noelcmn, 05-23-2016, 02:09 AM

Welcome to Project 52-8 for the year 2016. We are still with the exciting subject of Shapes-and this week it is Repetition, and which has also proved popular in the Project 52 history.

Images for Project 52-8-21 are to be taken between Monday 23rd May 2016 through to Sunday 29th May 2016. Closing times is midnight in your time Zone

Rules
1. Anyone and everyone interested in the challenge is eligible. The goal continues to be to have fun and share comments, concepts, insights, and techniques
with fellow Pentaxians.
2. Each week will feature a Theme and Sub-concept for you to explore. The theme/sub-concepts are chosen by the facilitator every week. You are only
required to submit a photo taken during the week of the challenge, and in keeping with the theme/sub-concept and be willing to be the judge if you win.
3. Post your single picture in Project 52-8 thread for the week. Explain what motivated you to take the picture and/or how you feel it represents the weekly
theme.
4. Some post-processing is OK (adjusting white balance, exposure, color saturation), but let's try to stay away from heavily PP'ed images here. Try to
keep the creativity to photographic techniques and the captures themselves.
5. Since this project is about technique, and not camera, shots taken by non Pentax cameras are allowed. Cameras may be SLRs, DSLRs, Point & Shoot,
Medium Format, et cetera. And we will include images taken with phones as well.
6. There is one “Theme Concept” labeled “black and white,” but feel free to post black and white, sepia, monotone, etc., for any of the other themes.
7. The picture you post should be taken during the week in which the theme is active to be eligible for judging. It is up to the discretion of the current week's
Judge to accept or decline early/late entries i.e. a day earlier or a day late. Usually there is some flexibility here to allow as many entrants as possible. BUT
PLEASE DO NOT POST IMAGES TAKEN DAYS OR WEEKS OUTSIDE THE PERIOD OF THE CHALLENGE. TRY TO KEEP IT AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE
TO THE TIME FRAME.
8. Additional images are welcome, but please keep them to a minimum. If more than one image is posted, make sure you identify your entry for the challenge.
Additional images should also please comply with rule 1 and rule 7.
9. Any picture taken from thread start date to listed closing date is acceptable.
10. The WINNER of each weekly challenge is the JUDGE of the next weeks Project 52-8 and may not participate in the challenge.
11. The host/facilitator (in this case noelcmn) may participate in the challenge, provided he/she is not the judge.

Here's the dose of inspiration from fellow Pentaxians. Be visiting the local supermarket one of these days

And Tom's cheese grater that should inspire us all if we struggle to find something.

I'm not quite sure if this qualifies... but hey, 2 is the beginning of a repetition, right? The wall details are repeating as well...

I had a very busy week and that's the best I could come up with!

Stitches

I'm about to leave for two weeks and it is getting late already, but I wanted to post something that quickly came to my mind thinking about repetition:

While repetition is an aspect of shapes and the stitches of this perfect twin-thread clearly show it, for me it is intrinsically tied to the process of making this shape: Sewing, driving the needle up and down in endless repetition, one thread and one pair of jeans after another. I only had to work at piece-rate for a few weeks of my entire life and only 45h a week, but I have high respect for the people dressing us so well, earning so little.

Prince of Wales bridge, in Ottawa Canada. This is a staple of photographers in Ottawa. Hard to beat the prior art, but fun to try. :-)

the history of...

A few words at the beggining. At a glance, my "repetiton" practice is not so special. Just three patterned white plates divided by dark copper spacers...

One upon a time, in the end of 15th century, Jews were expelled for Germany, Spain, Portugal and many other countries. So they started a weeks long journey to the east. One day they decided to stay in area within the borders of today Poland. They said Polin which, in hebrew, means "Here we can rest". The second meaning of word "Polin" is just... Poland.

Hundred years later thousands and thousands of europeans of Jewish origin learnt a lesson that word "rest" has second meaning as they rest in peace in Poland forever.

Now to the clou. Look very carefuly on the pattern on white part of the picture and find a letter "p", then look for "o" and "l" then "i" and finally "n"

Polin... Here we can rest. Rest in peace forever.

This is a part of fascade of Polin, the Museum of History of Polish Jews in Warsaw.

Fabulous creative shots! This is one of my favourite challenges as I love what can be distilled from looking at the world this way. Still lots of time for more people to join in!
