OK, so some people are getting new ones. I better press Park Cameras for a refund; see if that speeds things up.

However there is some disinformation there from Pentax UK re 39+ serials being OK. It's clearly reported here that some are not OK. You can't go on the S/N alone.

thanks (merci) to tringle wp for posting his serial number...
just thinking out loud..... since we can't ask retailers to open a k-5 box and check for sensor stains... can they check the serial number to pass along to the consumer?????
(i can't remember if the serial # is stamped on the outside of the box)...
i'm assuming that serial numbers following tringle's would be sensor stain free??
(to those who've bought k-5's here in the states, and are stain free... please post your serial number)....
thanks, dave m

I left mine at the dealer today, they had one spare at the store but it turned out affected. He ordered one from the warehouse and said he would check it before he sent it to me, and if that one was affected also he would call the warehouse and have them go through the boxes until they found a clean one to send to me. It's a well respected dealer and I cannot complain about the service. I hope I will get to pick it up at the post office on Thursday or Friday.

.. you are one lucky guy!!! usa dealers will not inspect before sale.....
please post your serial number when you get your clean body....
+1 for the customer service at your dealer !!! maybe other retailers will take note... but doubt it.... dave m

How long did it take? I sent mine in last week and though I know they received it last week (got the delivery notification) I have yet to hear from them...

Just got a replacement from Park Cameras. S/N is 396... and there was a large "O" in front of the S/N on the carton.

It is spotless.

Firmware is v1.01.

I don't think that O means too much. There's an O on the bottom left of the S/N sticker, in front of the serial number, on the back of my K-5 box, above the item barcode, and my 391x body has a line of very faint stains.

It was a couple of weeks before they responded telling me they were replacing the camera instead of fixing it at this time.

Returned my Pentax K-5 (serial no. 3832041) today. Recently I discovered sensor stains, that were not there before. Luckily Pentax and my dealer are very understanding. They will replace my camera. Curious how long it takes, K-5 might be out of stock.

It would be very worrying if the stains appeared during your ownership.

It may appear that way but actually they are barely visible at F8 or wider apertures, and are never visible if the relevant picture area is dark or has some detail in it. You tend to spot them readily if photographing a fairly uniform sky at F22 but how many people do that?

Mine is with CR Kennedy (Australian Agent), I spoke with them and they are replacing it as soon as new stock arrives (2 weeks).

I guess this is a good reason to buy local
