Lol... I'm sure the folks are just going to love me in about a week and a half...

Just ordered myself a violin from amazon. Do I know how to play the violin? NO. Will I be making tons of horrifying screeching noises at 2am... probably. I do enjoy my stringed instruments though, so with any luck and a bit of practice the hideous squealings will at least turn into solid notes within a month. At least for my parent's sake, I purchased a rubber string mute as well.

One of my daughters plays violin. She took it up at a very young age but fortunately, progressed quickly. There were a few weeks when a noise that sounded like a cat peeing on an electrified fence entertained the neighborhood but hey, she could have taken up drums.

Try finding the heaviest mute available on Amazon. I found a thick heavy one made of brass. It works remarkably well! Skip the lighter weight units. Junk.

Auzzie you should post weekly videos for us of your progress always playing or attempting to play the same tune of course.
That would be a great incentive to help you learn and show us your undoubted talents

Learn to hear well, and feel the sound and music. Playing music is a life time of pleasure. If a mute is needed now and helps, then by all means, but do not hold back. You need to hear the instrument fully to adjust the sound. Listen, feel, learn and enjoy.

Timetable got moved up. Apparently the violin was shipped on the 8th via 3 day priority, so I should have it tomorrow.
