K30 prices at Pentax Online Store

I went to the Pentax Online Store Digital SLR | Pentax dSLR Cameras | Pentax Webstore and saw something odd. The price of the K30 was higher than a K50. Given the K30 is an older model you would think it would be cheaper.

"Silky White", "Silky Yellow", "Silky Red", and "Crystal Red" weren't even sold in the US, except as a special order - and special orders weren't even offered as an option until shortly before it was discontinued. I'm guessing those entries are single items that somehow made it to the US, but did not get sold, or something like that. As such, they are "limited editions", and should cost more.

This has been going on seemingly everywhere that has both. They never really dropped the price of the K-30. I could be totally wrong, but the K-30s had not dropped in price before the K-50 introduction. Then Ricoh dropped the K-50 prices significantly to sell a lot of cameras. Stores had bought the K-30 stock at higher prices and don't want to lose money on them. You would think the Pentax store would be different, but I don't think it is actually owned by Ricoh.

The K-30 has an edgy coolness for the price premium.

But seriously, folks. K-50 was really just K-30ii -- the Rounded version. It added eye-fi card capability (and 120 color combos), but that could have been added to the K-30 design as K-30ii. In the end, K-50 has probably sold more units than K-30.
