K30 with 17-70 lens

I've been considering the 17-70 SDM lens. Recently purchased a K30 and found just how noisy the kits lenses are. (Pentax need to sort this issue!)

However, reading the manual it says that there is vignetting with the 17-70 lens. (?)

So questions are - why is vignetting worse with certain lenses - or certain Pentax cameras. (I assume it isn't the same with a K5ii ?)

And - how bad is it? Is it a slight effect or barely noticeable ?

They mean with the pop up flash because with lens extended it blocks some of the light from the flash.

What Martym said is correct. The shadow will be bad too. I've used the popup a couple times with the 18-135 (not even on the list) and it creates a large shadow.

It will be fine to use without the popup flash.

Over 8 years and 7 Pentax DSLRs, I've never used the pop-up flash. I've used on camera hot shoe flash at events and I use off camera flash and/or mono lights a lot. Zero issues.

The DA17-70 is a very versatile lens. I mostly use it in small dance studios or as a walk around. My working kit is a pair of K5IIs bodies. Wife went to a farmers market for canning tomatoes a few days ago, I went along as the chauffeur and bag boy, taking a body with the 17-70. Here's the gallery on my blog Colors of July.

Most of these galleries were made with it (except dress rehearsal) Picture Days & all the Santa pictures

Thanks for the replies.
Whilst you can get a shadow from longer lenses I think this problem is referring to normal use of the lens.
I had envisaged it meaning pixel vignetting but I think it is meaning the darkening in the corners.
Was the lens designed for a smaller sensor? The problem seems to be fairly common but you'd think the more expensive lenses wouldn't ironed out this problem(?)

I've found the page - 257 of the manual. It says the problem is only under 24mm.

That page heading reads as follows:

"Lens and Built-in Flash"

You're fine using them with available / sufficient off camera lighting.
