Official Photokina Predictions Thread

Soon we'll be kicking off our special Photokina 2014 homepage section (we'll be doing a Pentax interview as usual ), and what better way to start than to predict what Pentax has in store for us?

Vote in the poll above to tell us what you think will be announced at the show.

Here's my personal prediction:
  • New Q-mount macro lens
  • New K-mount lens (perhaps a DA telephoto zoom or a DA walkaround zoom)
  • Pentax K-S1
  • One other camera (perhaps a K-50 replacement or a new high-end compact)
  • Presentation of recently-announced products (Q-S1, 645 28-45mm, X-G1)
  • Presentation of experimental technology
As much as I want to believe that 2014 is the year of the Pentax full frame, I really can't envision it. But perhaps Photokina will positively surprise us all!

I love thinking about stuff like this because predictions can change by the day, right?

K Mount
... A zoom lens for APS
... Mid range APS DSLR - something in between the K-3 and the rumored K-S1.
... The actual K-S1 itself!

Q Mount
... A Q mount prime.
... The Q-S1.

FF
... A FF mirrorless with a new mount. Ricoh wouldn't want you to mount a soft cornered old FA 28-90mm kit lens and think FF sucks. So, new mount!

I voted for an entry level DSLR .... couldn't go wrong: it's already there with the KS-1
and for an high end compact ...
Apart from that, I don't really see Pentax/Ricoh announcing any news breaking lenses or "flagship" camera at this time.

That is some prediction there, Adam.

I predict that, no matter what products are announced, no matter that Pentax execs broker peace in the Middle East, no matter if Pentax promises a chicken in every pot and pot in every chicken, there will be much weeping and gnashing of teeth here on PF.

Oh, and perhaps a new mid-level APS-C camera and a couple lenses.

I think they have more in store. But perhaps I'm being too optimistic.

Everyone is going to hate it. I guarantee you - there will be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth - rending of garments and tearing of hair - threats, lamentations, people performing unnatural acts. With Gozirra.

Oh. And. RicohIsDead™
