Sigma 24-70mm discontinued?

Marked as discontinued according to sigma-rumors.com. Just-in-time for a Pentax FF release next spring...?

rumor on the canon forum is sigma is working on a new 24-70 2.8

The rumor I've seen (not that I believe it too much) is that they're working on a 24-70 F/2.0.

The head honcho DID say that he's working on 'unique' lenses to be released next year. That range and aperture sound a bit optimistic to me, though. A 28-55 F/2.0 would still be useful, kinda like a 18-35 f/1.8 only a stop faster.

With the success of the 18-35 f1.8, I think Sigma may venture to "beyond normal" apertures for zooms like that too. But then again, it's gonna be HUGE. The old 24-70 f2.8 already has a 82mm front element/filter thread. I doubt anyone would want a bigger face for their lens. Maybe they're working on the next step, like 35-70. that would make the lens smaller, even at f2
