Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
I am surprised that he considers the corners of the DA* 70-200 2.8 "insufficient" at 70 mm. Is there a true weakness of the lens? Or did he just get a bad (like misaligned) copy?

You're welcome.

He explains the tests are made at short distance and the field curvature is important at such distance (the focus is always made on the centre, not on the specific area that is measured).

That would explain it. But based on my experience, if you do focus on the corners they're razor sharp

Interesting. I have only had the DFA15-30 for a day, but I'm not convinced my copy is good as the tests above suggest.
My DFA*70-200, on the other hand, is incredible.
And no one is touching my FA limiteds.

The main conclusion is that all these new D-FA zooms performed very well compared to the competition.

As for the 70-200, globally it's as good as the Nikkor 70-200. So, don't worry for this one.

And in the comments you have the sempiternelle "canonite" who thanks the author for this article aimed a "one sole pentaxian" and then accuses himself of being a troll. Some folks are incredibly narrow-minded and dispose of too much time to waste...

Actually the 70-200 DFA* is significantly better than the Nikkor! I know , I used to have one. Horrific focus breathing problems mean that in practical terms you are getting 135mm at the long end.
I'd rate the 70-200 better than the Canon too - it's that good. Only downside is the additional weight in my mind.

The 15-30 is a great optic. I'm coming from the FE16-35 sony (also a great optic) and the 15-30 Tarmon is noticeably sharper in the center. There is slight drop off in extreme corner sharpness - however I feel that it needs to be kept in the context of any other pro zoom e.g. Canon , Nikon 10-24 which also exhibit slight curvature wide open affecting absolute corner sharpness. It's certainly no worse so I was not expecting macro prime performance. Actually I find the consistency of sharpness across the frame across focal lengths to be remarkable.
My biggest gripe with the lens is the actual lens design itself - the front element is bulbous and a pain to get filters for.

Are there no focus breathing issues with the Pentax DFA* 70-200?

Nothing as noticeable as the Nikkor - I'd wager possibly 175/180 @ 200mm. Nothing scientific but certainly very acceptable.
Subjectively, it's got a very beautiful rendering.
