Pentax 28-60mm F/2.0

A guy can dream. It would couple well with a wide angle zoom and a telephoto zoom. Three lenses, infinite possibilities (and it only SEEMS like infinite mass).

Not going to happen from Pentax, though, as they've publicly disavowed fast (heavy) glass in an era of good high-iso results. In addition it would overlap, to a large extent, the 31mm and 55mm primes (not to mention the 35mm F/2.4 and 50mm F/1.8)

The lens would get a lot of press, though.

Maybe there's hope for Sigma With the success of the 18-35mm f1.8 I'm sure they'll continue making more fast zooms, though for FF they'd be really quite bulky.

There's a rumor of a Sigma 24-70mm F/2.0, but there's also a rumor that the first rumor is just a rumor.

All else the same a 24-70mm F/2 would weigh ~1.4-1.8 kg. Of course they would try to take out some of that weight. While I really like the 24mm focal length, I only need one lens to cover it. Hence the 28-60... Could be a semi-reasonable 1.2kg I think.

in 1975 Contax requested a 28-70mm f/2 lens from Carl zeiss for the new Contax RTS camera body - after several months Zeiss announced they had completed the prototype and sent it to Contax in Japan, what they got was an optically faultless lens that was nearly 2.5kg and almost matched the size of the size of current 70-200 f/2.8 zoom lenses. A little bit too hefty for casual photography.

Be careful of what you ask for - you just might get it.

Well, seeing as my manual focus 25mm F/2.8... a 300 gram lens - is actually about 500 grams, I'm going to say that (3/5) * 2.5 = 1.5kg, which is about where I'd thought it would be.

Get this, though - all else the same, the 77mm front filter would go to 108mm. Here's hoping for a mid-lens filter drawer.
