Oh my, it's not a phone

Just saw this on Twitter:

I'm so glad the teen behind the President is not holding a cell phone camera . Or is it just me?

It's hard to believe the popularity of the cell phone camera. The old saying fits "Some people like ice cream and some people like junk".

Not really - it's convenient for non-photographers.

Yep.
I have good reasons for using a DSLR with a 18-250 zoom and others have good reasons for using a cell phone camera - what's the problem?

No problem. It's that the dedicated cameras concept is not irrelevant to this teen. And, in my opinion selected a better tool, relatively speaking.

The camera you have always trumps your best camera.

That said, you don't bring a knife to a gunfight. If I knew I was going to meet the president I'd damn sure bring my LX.

I don't see what's wrong with using a phone for photos. They have some pretty amazing cameras, and it's all about using the right tool for the right job. Sometimes I don't carry my DSLR, sometimes it grabs too much attention, sometimes I have the wrong lens mounted and by the time I've changed it the motive is gone, sometimes it takes too much time to get the camera out of the bag. And even if I hold the DSLR in my hand... the 13 MP raw images coming out of my phone, given that the lens is clean, there is enough light and the dynamic range isn't too great takes extremely sharp and high DoF images. I can't get that out of my K-5. To get that kind of DoF I'd have to stop down until I get a blurry mess.

I've been on their watch list since I voted for Ross Perot.
