Pronounciation of "Ricoh"

How do you pronounce RICOH? I have heard it pronounced REE CO and RYE CO. Which is it?

Ree. It's a Japanese pronunciation.

The Japanese sound we represent with 'i' is the short vowel, AFAIK.

Another example, 'Neekon', not 'Nigh-kon'.

I will stick to what they say in their own commercials. REE-CO and NY-CON. (Never heard anyone say "Neekon")

I've heard it said "Ree-koh" in US commercials. The Japanese "i" sound is like the English "ee" in "feet", but shorter in duration, so that "Nikon" in Japanese is somewhere between "Nickon" and "Neekon".

An (incredibly over-dramatic) Nikon D7000 commerical:

Yeah, American (or English language, anyway) commercials, or just their videos on the web, etc...

Perhaps a subsidiary getting the parent's name wrong is revenge for this:

Great story, isn't?

They possibly intended 'Pujero', or 'panther'.

It's funny to think what it might have translated to in other parts of the world.

"Kids, go greet your father. The W@nker just pulled in..."

Love it , now you can call some one a pajero and get away with it , assuming they ain't Mexican, which is pretty safe bet here. It sounds so much more expressive.

Reminds me of some of the funny pictures that do the rounds of shop names and the like from around the world using English swear words, or slang for body parts.
