I haven't seen that before: The way that butterfly holds it's wings - half of it wants to be a butterfly, half wants to be a moth.

No idea for Species ?
But it looks a lot like a Delta winged aircraft

It's a skipper of some sort - cool little butterflies.

Looks like either a woodland skipper or a sandhill skipper, based on the markings on the wings and the shape of the antennae. And it seems that other skipper butterflies tend to rest their wings in that position too.

I have one looking exactly the same in the backyard too. Likes perching on buffalo grass.

the colours are a bit washed out, but that is a functon of some export issue I have when extracting jpgs from iPhoto. They look just fine in iPhoto but poorly in the exported form. .... unsure why - really annoying.

Thanks for the info. Never noticed that before. Skipper butterflies seem to be rather rare here. According to the german Wiki entry only about 47 of 4127 species can be found in Europe.

A dusky wing skipper, first one I have seen. The orange types are more common. I hope this link works, it's not as easy on the iPad.
