AA Filter Simulator K-s2

I am a confused about this feature. Under the shooting tab3 in settings(page 76 in manual) it gives me 3 choices. 1. Off 2. Type 1 3. Type 2 and bracket mode. Being old school and having this filter installed in front of the sensor this software approach is new to me and the manual does a terrible job of explaining its use. I found a subject displaying severe moire and took shots in Off and type 1 and 2. I was hand hold with shake reduction on. In all the shots there was no difference (no moire) So the question I have should one leave it on and forget about it and what type is best? 1or2.Any help or advice would be appreciated!! Coming from a Pentax K100d this K-s2 is a little more complex for my senior brain

The rationale behind removal of optical AA filter was higher resolution, but at the price of higher risk of moire. If you enable filter simulator, it tries to emulate the filter by microvibrations of the sensor, what may lead to slightly lower resolution. Personally I keep the filter turned off, and haven't noticed any problems with moire, but of course it depends on subject of the photography. You can find more information in K-S2 review, and K-3 review.

Pentax AA filter

Thanks for your response Pentageek. I went to the K-3 review and under item 15 there was an excellent explanation how to use the AA simulator and shows its effect on images. All my questions have been answered. Thanks again for your swift response! This Pentax forum really is a wonderful place to find and learn. Well done!!!

Glad you found the explanation in the review helpful!

I generally leave the AA filter simulator off as I don't really shoot any textiles. The software processing tools these days are also pretty good- as I'm sure you saw in the review

I worried it would come up and I shoot entirely with it off on my K-3. I haven't had to enable it once.
