Sent My Sigma to C.R.I.S.

Well, AggieMom said that the Pentax 150-450 was not in my immediate future - some stupid stuff about paying off the boat or something - so I just sent my Sigma 150-500 to C.R.I.S. for a tune-up.

I'm not really sure whether it is the lens or me (aging is hell), but I don't seem to be getting the IQ that I was getting. Anyway, off it went. The insurance cost more than the shipping, but you really can't let something go without it (well, maybe socks).

I am very curious to learn their analysis and recommendations and cost. I'll keep ya'll posted.

I feel for you, my wife said no boat because we need to save for our daughter's college and the like. At least you have a boat..... AND a camera.

I totally understand. My boat did not come until after my daughter finished law school.

I was very fortunate though (bragging now), my girl had full rides to both college and law school. Hence, the name of the boat is ScholarShip. But I must warn you, girls can really cost a lot of money when in college - even with scholarships.

My wife and I are both retired school teachers, so things like cameras and boats and RVs have only come in our later years. But we're sure doing it all now. A classic example of spending the kid's inheritance. 😀

I got my estimate from CRIS today. Their response was very prompt. They received it on Tuesday and I received my estimate on Thursday.

So my Sigma 150-500 will have the following work done for $280.
  • Replace main circuit board
  • Repair lock switch and aperature operation
  • Tighten zoom as best possible (note the qualifier)
  • Adjust to manufacturer's specifications
  • General check and clean

So I guess I'll have an almost new, blueprinted lens when it comes back. I'm pretty excited, and I am positive my shots will immediately become award-winning (or at least more keepers).

When it returns I'll let you know how it turned out.

Don

That's excellent news and I'm glad they still have parts. Perhaps see if they will mail your Pulitzer along with the lens haha

Hey...great idea! Maybe just another $50 on the PayPal. I think I could slip that past AggieMom.
